When I came to this wiki it was, from the standpoint of interaction with users, dead. While part of the problem was that there were no active users to participate in discussions, a much bigger problem was that it was hard to see for new users where to start with discussions.
At that time, Dragonology Wiki was set up to use the old talk page/user talk page system which basically set aside wiki pages for conversations. These were hard to find and to use (for example replies were supposed to be prefixed by ':' for reasons I will not go into).
I replaced these systems with article comments and message walls (you are viewing the later right now) and along with careful management of discussions, these created a flare-up in user interactions.
Where Forums Come In
While I made improvements to the forum system creating several extra boards to spark discussion it remained evident that it was hard to understand how to use these boards and the forms provided for users to fill.
However, I did not want to move to the discussions feature as it remains disconnected from the wiki as a whole and lacks a way to provide forms to fill. While recent changes to the feature have made it more integrated it remains set aside from the wiki as a whole.
Discussions would also not show up in any of the monitoring tools I use like our custom Recent Comments page.
Forums are to go
Sorry, not my fault. Fandom and Gamepedia are undergoing a complex merge and as a result, it has been decided to finally decided to shut down forums. Don't panic! All the boards on the current forum setup will stay. They're just going to get moved...
Now the primary plan is to complain to fandom about the lack of adequate functionality in discussions but they aren't going to listen to us so that's why I have a backup plan. The idea is to move all forum boards to article comments and to place the form in the article with some explanatory text.
These articles may even have some other content related to the board concentrating comments into one place. Details to come when I finally get round to the transition...
You don't need to do anything
All content will be kept and links will be redirected. I just wanted to make you aware of the situation.
anyway, the reason why i'm not finnished already is because I went on a trip to track a group of dwarf dragons, but halfway through the last day, I threw up. When I came back home, the nasea was so bad I had to go to the hospital and get an IV tube in my arm. Then I felt better. Until... I got another stomach virus! Yay! Had to go to the hospital a secound time and get another IV along with an xray of my stomach. Now I feel better and hopefully won't have to go again. My IV:
Before we start, some introductions are probably in order. I am Dr. Cockatrice the second, proprietor Cockatrice and co. It's not a big buisness. A very small one in fact: it has only one other employee.
I know, I know, but these days dragons are scarce, and so are enterprises like this. My assistant is Noah. We hang out together, we've been friends ever scince kindergarden when we found out that we both played the same game after school. I should probably get on with the story.
So there I was, in front of the dragon, white knuckles stretched around my field guide, ready for Noah to say the the word. "zhaan." Draconic for "Run." [ed note: why are they speaking draconic?]. Quickly I dashed out the right passage while Noah dived for the left. I could feel the confused dragon's breath behind me as I ran for my life.
Hey bud! I am currently back from a trip to study European dragons in witch my dwarf dragon, Tiny escaped, and then found agian. I have seen some very intresting dragons to say the least.... I will post those soon. See ya around, Dr. Cockatrice
This wiki has suddenly become very busy indeed which has quite suprised me. I keep thinking that it is a temporary burst of activity but it keeps on going and I am suprissed and please. However, it does mean that I am not able to to look through as much as I want in as much detail as I want and then respond to it as I should so I want to apologies to all of the people who have yet to recive a welcome message on their wall. Aditionally I want to apologies for simply reverting edits with inacurate grammer/misconceptions.
I will attempt to rectify both of these things but it may take some time especially as I am busy IRL at the moment.
